Lee Honeycutt

Owner, Web Developer

I have been coding websites since 1994, when I first entered the doctoral program in Communication and Rhetoric at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY. That first year, I served as production manager for the Web’s very first magazine, Computer-Mediated Communication, which featured articles from leading philosophers and authors on the impact of the Internet.

Working on IBM Unix workstations in RPI’s labs, the CMC magazine staff used the vi text editor to hand code the emailed contributions of authors into hypertext markup language—a process we called “slamming peas” because of the <p> marks placed between each paragraph of the unformatted ASCII text. Back then, the entire Web consisted of less than 200 sites, not a single one of which was owned by a Fortune 500 company.

After graduation, I served 12 years as a professor at Iowa State University, where I taught courses in website design, print publications, and technical communication. During that time, I also served on the university’s Information Technology Advisory Committee and consulted with various government and non-profit organizations on website and document design projects. In 2009, I received a Master Teacher Award from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences for my novel use of technology in the classroom.

The Web has changed enormously since 1994, with a website now almost a necessity for operating any type of business. But what hasn’t changed is my commitment to crafting websites the old-fashioned way—by focusing on the importance of textual and visual content and coding pages by hand according to leading technical standards, such as HTML5 and CSS3. Using timeless rhetorical principles first developed in ancient Greece, I establish a deep empathy for your customers’ information needs and develop a seamless user experience that is optimized for maximum search engine results. So let me build you a website you can be proud of and that also meets your marketing goals.
